9 Easy Guitar Chords You Can Play with 2 Fingers

Here are 9 easy but fancy-sounding chords you can play with only 2 fingers.

Ok, so easy is a subjective word – but they’re easier than a lot of the ‘beginner’ guitar chords that are taught online.

Great for beginners or anyone looking for some alternative shapes to try instead of boring old G, C, Em and D.

The names are a little intimidating, but you don’t need to know all the theory to enjoy the sounds and use the shapes. Instead I’ve written a short description of the sound of each chord.

Prerequisite knowledge:

  • How to read chord diagrams
  • How to fret notes cleanly (without string buzz)

1. Asus2

easy chords
“Sus” (said like “suss”) is short for suspended. Sus chords have an open, airy sound.

2. G6

Familiar old G, with a new twist

3. Cmaj7

Say it like “C Major 7”. Sounds a little smooth & kinda jazzy.

4. Dsus2

Another suspended chord, this time on D. I use the index and ring finger for this one.

5. D7sus2

I’m not sure how to describe the sound of this one. Leave a comment if you have any ideas!

6. D6add4

Moving up to the 4th and 5th fret for this. In my opinion, it sounds better without the high e string, but you can try it with, too.

7. Aadd9

This chord makes me go “ahhhhh”.
Be sure to play it on the 6th and 7th fret.

8. Am(add9)

A variation on the Aadd9, but with a darker sound, because it’s minor.
Pronounced “A minor add 9”

9. A7sus4

It’s got a 7, a sus, and a 4 in it. It’s gotta sound good, right?
