Testimonials

"Chris has all the aspects of a great tutor. In a matter of weeks, I'm playing some of my favourite music and moving on to more advanced techniques."
Dan Teasdale
"I started learning to play the songs I like from the off, and the lesson materials are clear and easy to practice from at home. If you’re looking for relaxed lessons and a knowledgeable teacher, Chris is your guy!"
Naomi King
"Chris has been an excellent tutor, a really good fit for me. The most important thing is that he’s teaching me songs that I love. He’s really motivating, very skilled and clearly loves his job. I couldn’t recommend him more."
Amy Liversidge
“The best – i.e. thoughtful, well-prepared, insightful, and encouraging – guitar teacher I have encountered, by some distance.”
Graham Browning
"I’ve been seeing Chris for tutoring for around a year - in person, and more recently online. The transition to online lessons has been far easier than I expected, and the lessons are every bit as productive as those in person. Chris has a comfortable and well-equipped teaching space, and makes good use of web-based resources to bring the same experience to online lessons. Chris is an excellent tutor - he has a very calm, friendly and professional manner, and a great teaching style. My experience with Chris has been very positive, and I’m delighted to recommend him to others."
Mark Waudby
"I started learning the guitar as a complete beginner and in the few weeks Chris has been teaching me he has gone above and beyond to make sure im not only reaching my goals but i'm also having fun in the process. I would strongly recommend anyone wanting to learn the guitar to contact Chris"
Stephen Bradshaw
"I’d been planning to learn guitar for so many years so researched tutors reading many a testimonial along the way. When I stumbled across Chris I knew I’d found my tutor. I’ve only had the benefit of Chris’ expert tuition for 2 hours but have learnt so much. Chris explains things so well and is extremely patient. Lessons under Chris are so much fun and I cannot speak highly enough of him. My only regret is that I didnt find him sooner!"

What’s taught in the course?

Crystal Clear Goal Setting

From Day 1, we’ll dig deep to uncover the musical goal that excites you the most, find your core motivation, and get your priorities in order. In just 10 minutes, you’ll have a clear goal statement you can read whenever you feel like you’re falling off track.

The Guitar Habit Toolkit

There’s no “one-size-fits-all” for setting up a daily practice routine. Rather than simply telling you to “play every day”, you’ll get a deep dive into how motivation really works (it’s not how you might think), and how to establish a practice habit you’ll actually stick to.

The Bad Sounds First Approach

Discover how making bad sounds first can supercharge your learning speed, and help you troubleshoot without the frustration. In Module 1, I explain exactly how to do this without developing bad habits.

Bad Habit Buster

What if you already have some bad habits that need correcting? That’s where the Bad Habit Buster comes in. Just recognising the habit is half the battle. In these lessons, you’ll learn how playing to a wall can improve your technique, and how rubber bands and post-it notes are your best friends. Let’s bust those habits once and for all!

The 6-Point Hand Position Check

Most guitar teachers will tell you to “arch your fingers”, and stop there. There are in fact 6 key things you need to consider when it comes to the left hand alone. This routine only takes 20 seconds, but it might just transform the sound of your playing.

The Chord Switching System

I don’t know a single guitarist that didn’t struggle with chord switching as a beginner. When it comes to building speed & accuracy, “just practise more” isn’t going to do it. Learn my step-by-step chord switching routine with targeted exercises for your problem areas.

Steady Pulse Challenge

You can’t play a song if you can’t hold a beat. How good is your sense of timing, really? You’ll find out with the Steady Pulse Challenge, designed to test & train your sense of beat. I’ll also reveal how pro and amateur musicians think differently about rhythm & timing. Worried you “don’t have rhythm?” If you can walk in a straight line, it’s good enough to start.

Strum Like a Pro

You’ll learn the 3 techniques that can improve your strumming and set you apart from beginner guitarists. I’ve also included 27 play-along strumming patterns, to expand your rhythm repertoire. That’s more than some people learn in a lifetime of guitar playing!

The Song Selection System

So many beginners set themselves up for failure at the first step: choosing songs. Choose a song that’s too difficult, and you’ll want to smash the guitar up. Choose something too easy, and you’ll get bored. So how do you find songs that you actually want to play? Can songs be simplified? I’ll also lay out my exact process for learning your first 5 to 10 songs.

Hand Coordination Mastery

So you can switch between chords, or strum a rhythm – but what about both hands at the same time?  Does playing guitar feel like rubbing your stomach and patting your head? Want to sing and play? My hand coordination exercises might just be the missing piece in the puzzle.

Barre Chord Secrets

I used to struggle so much with chords like F and B. Looking back, it’s no wonder my chords sounded terrible – I was doing so many things wrong. I want to save you hours of frustration and help you nail those barre chords, so you don’t need to waste so much time like I did.

The Fallback Routine

If you work or study full-time, it’s easy to procrastinate on practice. This all-round 5 minute routine will keep your skills sharp. Practise smart, not hard. Perfect for those busy days when you just don’t feel like playing.

FAQ

When does the course start and finish?

The course starts now and never ends! It is a completely self-paced online course – you decide when you start and when you finish.

How long do I have access to the course?

How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like – across any and all devices you own.

What if I am unhappy with the course?

We would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us in the first 30 days and we will give you a full refund.

Will I learn songs inside the course?

The goal of this course is to give you the skills to play not just one song, but pretty much any song that has Chords & Rhythm. I help you choose your own songs inside the course. I don’t teach real songs in the course, as this would be against copyright law – besides, who am I to say what your favourite songs are? Instead, you’ll be playing chord sequences based on commonly used chords, and common rhythms that you can use for your own cover versions. You’ll have a step-by-step, repeatable system to tackle songs – whether you like Acoustic classics, Indie, Folk, or Pop.

Can Chris check if I'm doing things right as I go through the course?

Of course! I’d love to see how you’re getting on. If there’s something that isn’t clear in the course, I want to know about it. If you’re stuck, there are lots of ways to get help. You can post comments and upload pictures or videos for me to check. I’ll give you personal feedback and tips for improvement. If you’re still struggling, there is an option inside the course to schedule a one-to-one video call with me. Full video coaching calls are paid separately to the online course, at an extra cost.

Chris, what makes you qualified to teach this course?

My background in music spans two decades, 20 years of those being on guitar, 17 years writing & performing in bands, and 7 years teaching guitar as a full time profession. I have a Grade 8 certificate on guitar, and I also have a Degree in Popular Music Studies. Really, though, the thing that qualifies me the most is the extensive amount of trial and error I have been through in my own personal practice over the years. I’d like to save you the time and effort and help you play songs from start to finish, in a clear & straightforward manner.

How does it work?

Step 1: Join the course by clicking one of the enrol buttons on this page.
